The Baye Fall event celebrating the day Shaykh Ibrahima Fall “Babul Muridina” (the door to Muridiyya) made allegiance, by submitting his life and soul to Shaykh Ahmadu Bamba, founder of Muridiyya in Senegal. It has been a long trek for Mame Shaykh before he was blessed to perform such act before the man who would later write a long chapter in the politico-religious scene of a colonially dominated Senegal.
Such encounter will soon change a lot in the day to day relationship and interaction between the Shaykh and people around him. For, he will introduce new settings in the Shaykh’s compound, drawing borderlines for each and every disciple, when interacting with the Shaykh. Such attitude will ignite the ire of many who labelled him as a lunatic.
Mame Shaykh Ibra Fall would later be dispatched by the Shaykh to found his own community. But he chose to follow the way of great Sufi disciples whose attachment to the satisfaction of their masters’ needs was only revocable by their departing from this world. Wandering and collecting alms for the benefit of the Shaykh and his family was the next allegiance he took later on, when he was released from years of tarbiyya (education of the soul).
His life story is full of teachings and anecdotes that are inspiring whole generations of followers that can be traced back to the early stage of Muridiyya. His mysticism alongside his bravery are recollecting those of the Valliant knights of Islam, first companions of the Prophet (PBUH) believed in him without back thought. So is summed up his relationship with Shaykh Ahmadu Bamba with was very proud of him in all angles.
His captivating charisma forged the admiration of all without distinction, but his life remains an enigma for most of us who don’t understand the inner intricacies of paths towards Allah (SWT), that triggered many stories surrounding his persona and legendary lifestyle embodied by the philosophy of “Jeff-Jel” action
