After the United States Ambassador, Madam Marcia Bernicat’s visit to Serigne Mame Mor, the mayor of the great French city of Merignac Michel Sainte Marie salutes the efforts of Serigne Mame Mor Mbacke, the official worldwide Ambassador of Muridiyya. On his arrival on Monday, January 25, 2010 at the Al Azhar Touba headquarters in Darul Alimul Khabir also known as “Ndam,” mayor Michel Sainte Marie was hospitably received by his host and friend Serigne Mame Mor Mbacke Mourtada. Impressed by the intellectual, social, economic, and cultural impact that Al Azhar Touba has been having on its hundreds of thousands of alumni for decades, Mayor Michel Sainte Marie expressed his gratitude, respect, and admiration for Serigne Mame Mor’s efforts to alleviate poverty and promoting world peace through education. Furthermore, the mayor also extended the greetings of his fellow citizens, that of the French government  and said that his city of Merignac is delighted beyond expression to partnering with Al Azhar Touba.

For his keynote address, the Murid Ambassador, Serigne Mame Mor Mbacke, welcomed and thanked mayor Michel Sainte Marie for his visit to the Holy City in general and to Al Azhar Touba in particular.  He reminded that Al Azhar Touba’s mission and goal remain to be the “Answered prayer” of Cheikh Ahmadou Bamba in Matlabul Fawzeyni in which the Sheikh asks Allah to make his city one of righteousness and knowledge.  He revealed that it was in the same premises (where  the Al Azhar Touba University is being constructed now) that most of Cheikh Ahmadou  Bamba’s  off springs were educated by the legendary Murid professor, Serigne Ndam Abdurrahman Lo, who is also Serigne Mame Mor’s maternal grandfather. In conclusion, Serigne Mame Mor assured the mayor that the soon-to-be Al Azhar Touba  University will not hesitate to join hands, in the form of foreign student exchange programs and others, with all top world universities  in order to keep the promotion of world peace through education, and to continue to generate, disseminate, and preserve knowledge. 

Finally, as Serigne Mame Mor’s philosophy to always inform and obey the orders of the Caliph, he, his younger brothers including Serigne Saliou Mbacke Mourtada, president of Al Azhar Touba, and other Al Azhar Touba staff members, took mayor  Michel Sainte Marie to the “Residence Khadimou Rassoul” to meet  and greet Cheikh Mouhammadou Lamine Bara Mbacke Fallilou, the general caliph of Muridiyya.
